Then again, isn't this the exact reason why the Steelers drafted Rashard Mendenhall? Let's not forget, either, that Chris Hoke played very well when Casey Hampton blew out his knee in 2004. (9/24/08)

It doesn't get better from here... On Monday night, the Steelers will be without Willie Parker and Casey Hampton when they face a Ravens team that has both A) a stout run defense, and B) an offense that's run the ball 90 times in two games. (9/24/08)

In this piece, Joe Starkey analyzes the questions that are bound to be raised regarding the Steelers' offensive line. (9/24/08)

Ben's sack total in the Eagles game was just a shade under double digits. And if you consider the times when Ben was tackled forward for a just short gain, the real number might be a baker's dozen. (9/24/08)

Sorry for the hiatus. In case you hadn't noticed, the Steelers were dismantled by a much more aggressive Eagles team. (9/24/08)

In the latest ridiculous story surrounding the Steelers, the media and Mike Tomlin are going back and forth regarding whether or not Ben Roethlisberger has a separated shoulder. The ridiculousness takes shape when you consider the fact that the sprained AC joint that Tomlin claims is actually a mild form of a separated shoulder. Hopefully the media can drop the issue sooner rather than later. But in the meantime, I'm going to set the over/under of 4 days (including Sunday night's game) before we see this situation being referred to as 'Shouldergate'. (9/17/08)

After just two games, it looks like Troy Polamalu is back in form. (9/17/08)

Stanley Druckenmiller's 6-week deadline apparently ends on Friday, so be ready to see something happen regarding the Steelers' ownership situation in the next couple of days. Why do I get the feeling that nothing will happen this week? Tune in two days from now after something actually does happen, and see me look like an idiot. (9/17/08)

1250 ESPN Radio's Eddie Crow has devised his own drinking game for Mike Tomlin's press conferences. Enjoy. (9/17/08)

It was a solid night for both Santonio and Hines. (9/15/08)

From the Anchorman quote archive - "Hines Ward looks good. I mean really good". (9/15/08)

Gerry Dulac recounts some of last night's key plays in this article. (9/15/08)

The Steelers made it ten for their last tenlast night in Cleveland. (9/15/08)

Big Ben likely will play Sunday night despite his sore shoulder. (9/10/08)

The Steelers signed Ben's favorite target in college, Martin Nance, to the practice squad on Tuesday. Ben had pleaded for the team to draft Nance in 2006, but they didn't even sign him when he went undrafted. The Steelers released Micah Rucker from the practice squad to make room for Nance. (9/10/08)

Anthony Smith was on the inactive list (2nd paragraph) against the Texans. Mike Tomlin says it was because he needed extra linemen due to the September heat, and not because Smith never seems to listen to what the coaches tell him. (9/10/08)

Brett Keisel finds inspiration from his infant son. Keisel lead the Steelers in "QB hurries" last season, but didn't get many sacks. Hopefully the emergence of Lamarr Woodley will start to open things up for guys like Keisel like it's doing for James Harrison. (9/10/08)

Here's a bunch of tailgating pics and info from Steelers fans. (9/10/08)

In a pre-game ceremony for the Texans game, the Steelers honored the late greats Ernie Holmes, Dwight White, and Myron Cope. (9/8/08)

So much for fantasy football players saying Willie Parker won't be getting goal-line carries this season. (9/8/08)

The Steelers now face the task of not letting a big win get to their heads. As they should, since next week's game against a Cleveland team that was ripped by the Cowboys this weekend has some major "trap game" potential. (9/8/08)

If the other teams in the NFL didn't know who Lamarr Woodley was, they should know him now. He and James Harrison could be staring down a season for the ages if they keep up their pace. (9/8/08)

The Steelers smoked the Houston Texans, 38-17, on Sunday. (9/8/08)

Dallas Baker will be the #4 wideout against the Texans on Sunday. That likely means that Limas Sweed will be on the inactive list. (9/5/08)

From this notebook piece, Bruce Arians won't hesitate to put Rashard Mendenhall in the game. Also, Ben's favorite college target, Martin Nance, visited the Steelers on Thursday. If Nance is eventually signed, it likely won't be good news for Dallas Baker. (9/5/08)

Time to put on your Neil O'Donnell-era hats: Former Steeler Jeff Zgonina is now the oldest defensive player in the NFL. How long has Zgonina been in the league? When he was drafted, it was Bill Cowher's second season as head coach of the Steelers. And even more remarkably, the Pirates were coming off a winning season. (9/5/08)

Ben is looking more and more like a team leader these days, and was named a team captain for this season. (9/4/08)

Troy Polamalu and Larry Foote are "ready to go" for Sunday. (9/4/08)

Hines Ward is more than ready to get this season started. (9/4/08)

Anyway, enough with that Dre' Moore idea - The Steelers have signed tight end Sean McHugh to their active roster. At 6'5", McHugh was likely the oddest-looking fullback in Penn State football history. He was drafted as a tight end by the Titans in 2004, and bounced around the league over the last few years. In retrospect, picking up a 3rd tight end makes sense for this season, given Bruce Arians' mancrush on the position. However, the chance to grab a potential future starter along the aging defensive line might have been the better long-term option. Okay, no more Dre' Moore talk, starting... Now. (9/3/08)

Relatively big news today, as the Steelers apparently traded Sean Mahan back to Tampa Bay for an undisclosed 2009 draft pick. Mahan, of course, left Tampa to sign with the Steelers as a free agent just a year and a half ago. This trade clears a spot on the 53-man roster, so look for a member of the practice squad to be signed to the 53. One possible signing to look out for is Dre' Moore, who ironically is currently on the Buccaneers' practice squad. The Steelers were very high on Moore, who was picked by Tampa 15 slots before the Steelers' 4th round pick, where they likely would have selected him instead of Tony Hills. They could pull off this move as long as they sign him to the 53-man roster, essentially using Moore as the new guy at the young-but-raw-defensive-end spot on the 53 that used to belong to Ryan McBean. (9/2/08)

The Steelers signed Patrick Bailey, Roy Lewis, Grant Mason, Jeremy Parquet, Scott Paxson, Micah Rucker, Dezmond Sherrod and Justin Vincent to their practice squad today. (8/31/08)

The Steelers made the required number of cuts to get to the required 53-man roster limit. The only non-injury-related cut that we were wrong about when we made our prediction a month ago was Ryan McBean. Our injury-related "misses" included Ryan Mundy, Mike Humpal, and Daniel Sepulveda. The real surprising member of the 53-man roster was undrafted rookie linebacker Donovan Woods. (8/31/08)

Congratulations, Steeler fans - We've been voted the NFL's Best Fans by ESPN.com's team of NFL bloggers. We actually tied with Packers fans, so they went to John Clayton as the tie-breaker. Clayton, of course, grew up in Pittsburgh and covered the Steel Curtain teams, so that's kinda like letting the Chinese judge vote twice to decide the gymnastics medals in the Olympics. But we'll take it nonetheless. (8/29/08)
